(Reuters) โ A Major League Baseball game between the Athletics and visiting Chicago Cubs was interrupted for a few minutes after a mysterious drone was spotted flying above the outfield before the home teamโs bat boy snatched it out of the air.
The drone suddenly appeared during the seventh inning on Monday while Seth Brown was at the plate for the Athletics, who are playing home games at a minor league ballpark in Sacramento, California, before their planned move to Las Vegas in 2028.
During the stoppage of play, an Athletics bat boy went to the outfield and stood with his left arm outstretched as the drone slowly descended into his hand before he gave it to a security guard.
The incident was not the first drone-caused delay to happen in an MLB game. During the 2020 MLB season five games were delayed to varying degrees because of drones.
The Athletics, who concluded their 56-year run in Oakland last September, have found a temporary home in Sacramento but decided against adopting the cityโs name.
