So if you listen to the podcast you know that I was one of many old men yelling at clouds when it comes to the above video.
I don’t want to be dramatic, but if you pull the Ray Charles version of this song for a Noah Kahan cover, you should be sent directly to jail. And that’s nothing against Noah Kahan! I actually enjoy some of his music, and there are country stations that are starting to add his singles to their rotation. Nevermind that he looks like if Lin Manuel Miranda had a Chris Gaines phase, his stuff is pretty solid.
But it’s RAY CHARLES. You can’t improve on that version. This would be like going to the Louvre and their curator traded out the original Mona Lisa with a version done by Banksy. It didn’t have to be done, and shouldn’t be done.
That said, if you were going to trade out Georgia On My Mind for a newer song, THIS was the play:

THE CREED COMEBACK CONTINUES!
I don’t know if we ever blogged about it, but my wife and I went up to the Resch Center last summer to see them on their comeback tour. I’d give it an A+, but I forgot there’s an A++. Just a bunch of mid 30’s to early 50’s white people jamming out with sore knees and backs by the end of the night. Would recommend.
PS: I can’t wait:
If you can’t admit this is going to rock then you’ve got a big dump in your pants.
