The Reporting Page from the Sheboygan County Preliminary Election Returns Shows the Tally and Data.
What was termed a โhuman errorโ was behind an unofficial post-election tally showing passage of a spending referendum for the Sheboygan Falls School District. Sheboygan County Clerk Jon Dolson took responsibility for the errant report that initially showed the passage after Village of Kohler votes for the statewide Voter ID referendum were mistakenly added to the Sheboygan Falls vote for the school referendum.
This, Dolson said, is because a small portion of the Village of Kohler falls within that school districtโs lines, requiring the addition of that referendum line to the ballot. But with nobody actually living on that portion, the Village of Kohler vote total should have been zero. The Kohler returns for the statewide referendum were instead transcribed to the Falls Schools referendum line, thereby putting the โyesโ votes in the lead.
After the error was noticed, the correct number of votes were updated in the statewide canvass system, indicating defeat of the referendum 2,604 No votes to 2,493 Yes. Dolson said that the Sheboygan Falls School District is the official canvasser in this case, and can certify their results.
Dolson acknowledged the event and took full responsibility for any adverse impacts the error may have caused, saying in part: โThis incident does not reflect the high standards of professionalism and election integrity that my office is committed to uphold.โ
