The US Department of Agricultureโs Food Safety Inspection Service has issued a recall of some 22,672 pounds of Johnsonville Cheddar Bratwurst due to the possibility of contamination by hard plastic materials. The brats were produced on February 5th and packaged in sealed, 19-oz firm tray packages containing five sausages each, and stamped with the package code of B9FOD. Packages also contained the establishment number โEst. 1647โ on the front label, and were shipped to retail locations in Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin. There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of these products, and anyone concerned about injury should contact a healthcare provider.
The problem was discovered after Johnsonville notified Food Safety Inspectors of having received two consumer complaints reporting hard plastic material found in the bratwurst products. The Food Inspection Service is concerned that some of these may be stored in peoplesโ freezers, and are advising people to check for a match and either discard the product if found, or return it to the retailer.
