A wild chase on Friday night in Fond du Lac County resulted in damage to multiple vehicles, and both private and public property damage.
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff first stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on South Military Road and I-41 in the City of Fond du Lac. The driver handed over his license, but refused requests to step out of the vehicle. After multiple commands to exit were ignored, the driver began to put the car in gear, prompting a Deputy to try to tase him…an attempt that failed.
The driver then turned off the lights, increased his speed and led deputies on a chase eastbound on Pioneer Road, colliding with a roundabout at Hickory Street and then another at Morris Street before striking a curb at Main Street causing significant damage to the vehicle.
The pursuit, which totaled 3-1/2 miles, then wound through Fond du Lac streets until a PIT maneuver sent the suspect off the roadway and through the lawn of a private business on Camelot Drive. That’s where a second PIT maneuver finally stopped the vehicle and the suspect was arrested.
The 45-year-old Milwaukee man behind the wheel is now in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, felony bail jumping, and criminal damage to property. He was out on a $500 cash bond through Brown County on felony fleeing and eluding charges. There were no injuries incurred during the incident.
