In the course of two days, the books are closed on one, and another book begins on a new session of Sheboygan City Government. Mondayโs was the last Common Council meeting of the 2024-25 session with the usual passage of some items, while many others were referred to committees of the 2025-26 session. Those who will deal with the items carried over will be installed during tonightโs First Regular Common Council Meeting.
That installation follows the traditional opening of a roll call, presentation of the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance, and an invocation by Father William Bulson. Thatโs followed by land recognition and a presentation by Sheboyganโs Poet Laureate, Lisa Vihos. And then the oaths of office begin installation of Sheboyganโs new governing body, led by that of re-elected Mayor Ryan Sorenson.
Newly, or re-elected Alders Ryan Menzer, Michael Close, Susie Boorse, Grazia Perrella and Trey Mitchell then take their oaths, and with a full Council in place the rules for the session are adopted.
The elections of the President and Vice-President of the Council will be followed by that of the Representative on the City Plan Commission. Then, the Council is recessed to elect the Chairperson of the Committee of the Whole, after which it reconvenes to begin the business of the 2025-26 session.
Tonightโs events begin at 6 p.m.
