What a moment yesterday at American Family Field. 105-year old WWII veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor, Ed Miklavcic, tossing in that first pitch. Imagine telling Ed in 1941 (when he was 21 years old!) that in the year 2025 he’d be throwing out the ceremonial first pitch for the Milwaukee Brewers (a team that didn’t exist yet) at American Family Field (a venue that wouldn’t be build for another 60 years). Amazing! And hell, that first pitch was a LOT better than some of the other ceremonial first pitches we’ve seen from celebrities (*cough* Mike Tyson *cough*) over the years.
Now after watching that yesterday I did a little deep dive into Ed Miklavcic’s life. As you might expect, he’s done more than a few interviews over the years about his life and his experience in the war and Pearl Harbor.
Worthwhile watches for everyone.
And hey, Sal Frelick shook Ed’s hand and then went yard! Power of the Greatest Generation!
I loved this response from Sal Frelick when I asked him about 105-year-old WWII veteran Ed Miklavcic throwing out the first pitch.

Pretty neat day at the ballpark for everyone it looks like.
PS: Watching Jose Quintana pitch FOR the Brewers is, in a word, a delight. Just a pro’s pro. In complete control, pitches to contact (democratic!), double plays, mixes pitches and locations, he’s been exactly as advertised. Insane that he was just sitting out on the market and only cost $4.25 million (roughly 40 pounds of Malibu sand).
