With the stroke of Governor Evers’ pen on Monday, a project to reconstruct a portion of Highway 28 from the Sheboygan/Washington County line to the Village of Waldo has officially been launched. Construction will begin on Tuesday, April 29th with the closure of Highway 28 while crews begin work required to replace a bridge in the Village of Cascade, extend the life of the existing pavement of the highway with an overlay of asphalt, widen the shoulders, reconstruct pedestrian curb ramps in Cascade and Waldo, and finish with proper markings and the replacement of highway beam guards.
During the bridge replacement portion of the project, which is forecast to be finished in late September, Highway 28 will be closed in Cascade and detoured via County Highway A and State Highway 57. The rest of Highway 28 will remain open to two-way traffic during the remaining schedule of roadway work with local access maintained and flag crews controlling the flow during daytime hours at various times.
Residents and business owners with concerns, or those who frequently travel routes through the area are encouraged to visit the project website.
