Most people have heard of the 4G and 5G wireless telephone networks, but there’s another set aside specifically to serve public safety – and Sheboygan County was included when AT&T expanded connectivity to that service in Wisconsin.
The network is called FirstNet®️, Built with AT&T, and expansion on its Band 14 spectrum is part of a 10-year investment initiative to cover more public safety-centric locations. Band 14 was set aside by the FCC to meet the strict requirements of public safety providers.
AT&T says that 99 percent of first responders were already covered, but tribal, territorial and rural areas are part of that 1% remaining, and that’s where Sheboygan County was included.
Calumet and Fond du Lac were among the other 11 Wisconsin counties whose increased coverage was announced on Monday.
