Two local high school seniors have been selected along with 30 others as finalists for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Statewide Scholar Athlete Award, presented by the We Energies Foundation and the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation. The selections were made from a pool of more than 806 nominated seniors from 415 high schools across the state. The finalists this year include Ryan Lang of Division-1 Sheboygan North High School, and Addison Schliewe of Division-2 Sheboygan Falls High School.
WIAA Executive Director, Stephanie Hauser, said that “Each of these outstanding student athletes has excelled in academics and athletics…”, noting that, “Twenty of this year’s 32 Scholar Athlete finalists have maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, and together they hold an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.86. Collectively, they’ve already earned 306 varsity letters – an average of 9.56 per athlete – with spring sports still underway.”
North High’s Ryan Lang has maintained a 4.0 GPA, was a cross country state qualifier his junior season, and is a four-time Fox River Classic All-Conference honoree in the sport. He set a school record swimming the 200-yard medley relay at State, and is a three-time sectional Champion in track & field. Lang plans to attend the New Jersey Institute of Technology to study computer science.
Sheboygan Falls’ Addison Schliewe holds an impressive 3.97 GPA, is a three-time team basketball MVP, and earned first team all-conference honors in that sport during her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. She was named Eastern Wisconsin Conference Basketball Player of the Year for her junior season, and helped her team to back-to-back conference championships. Addison plans to continue her basketball career at the University of St. Thomas while studying exercise science.
The 2025 WIAA Scholar Athlete Finalists will be recognized at an awards ceremony on Sunday, May 4 at SentryWorld in Stevens Point. The keynote speaker will be Mike “Jocko” Jacques, an award-winning, Emmy-nominated journalist and Wisconsin Native.
