Replacement of a little bridge will mean big headaches for those accustomed to using Highway 28 through the Village of Cascade beginning tomorrow. That’s when Wisconsin DOT crews will essentially cut the southwest Sheboygan County community in half, closing the road – also known as Madison Avenue, in order to replace a small, but important bridge that crosses the North Branch of the Milwaukee River with a new, appropriately-sized bridge featuring sidewalks and decorative railing. The bridge replacement is part of a larger overall project to resurface and improve the highway from the Village of Waldo to the south County Line.

Motorists will be directed to use County Highway A and State Highway 57 to bypass that closure, which is expected to last until sometime in August, while the full project won’t finish until September. Flag crews and select single-lane closures will affect traffic on the rest of the route until it’s complete.
Those with concerns are being directed to the full project website for maps and information.
