Twenty-seven Wisconsin communities will share in more than a million dollars to help create attractive new public spaces – among them – Manitowoc.
Money comes from the latest round of funding from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation which, this year, is helping to fund bandshells, downtown plazas and trailheads through its “Vibrant Spaces Grant” program.
In Manitowoc, $40,000 will be heading toward a project to transform an asphalt parking lot adjacent to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum into the Maritime Plaza & Heritage Gardens, with native plantings and unique nautical artifacts, where people can gather for both education and entertainment in downtown Manitowoc.
Missy Hughes, the secretary and CEO of the WEDC, said that people want to live and work in a thriving community, and the grant is a good investment in both Manitowoc’s business, and the quality of life.
