US Highway 10 has had a 350-mile detour since last year, but that changes on Friday, May 16th. That happens when the SS Badger Car Ferry resumes service between Manitowoc and Ludington, Michigan. The 410 mile trip that – without traffic – takes 7 hours to drive via Chicago – is reduced to 60 miles in 3-1/2 hours via the ferry.
The public is invited to dockside festivities to launch the service at 11:30 the morning of Friday the 16th. Plans include all the bells and whistles, both the real ones that belong to the ferry, and the figurative ones like the Lincoln High Marching Band, LondonDairy Alpacas, members of the Red Hatters women’s society of Manitowoc, local elementary school students, along with food trucks and even free pastry while it lasts.
