Memorials to fallen police officers will be held in Sheboygan on Tuesday night as part of the National Police Week observance.
Ceremonies are held at five minutes before midnight and, like last year, a piper, this year from the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums, will send the strains of “Amazing Grace” into the night from outside the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, just one of many law enforcement agencies in Wisconsin where lost officers will be honored.
Sheboygan County officers being remembered include Sheriff Lieutenant Leroy Nennig who was killed on August 15th, 2004 when he was struck by a vehicle while assisting to control another vehicle on fire.
Sheboygan Police Officer Theodore Husting was shot and killed while investigating a burglary in progress on March 27, 1937.
Finally, Special Officer Charles Freiherr was struck and killed by a switch engine while patrolling the downtown rail yards. He’d served only two months when he lost his life on September 6, 1895.
