An area man from a little village is in big trouble with federal officials after being charged with moving minors across state lines.
Less than 700 people live in Francis Creek, located a few miles northwest of Two Rivers, and one of them, 75-year-old Michael J. Kornely, is accused of transporting two separate minor victims across state lines with the “intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.” According to charges revealed on Monday by the US Department of Justice, Kornely is also alleged to have used a computer in March of 2024 to attempt to “persuade, induce, and entice” a minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.
Kornely’s actions were discovered by investigators with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI along with help from the Two Rivers Police Department. If he’s convicted on any of the three charges, Kornely faces at least 10 years imprisonment and up to a life sentence, a $250,000 fine and would be required to register as a sexual offender under state and federal law.
