Whether due to a tornado or just straight line winds is a mystery to be solved by National Weather Service Investigators. Whichever was the cause, winds from Thursday’s severe thunderstorms were sufficient to down two grain silos and cause additional damage along County Highway LL at the intersection with Highway “K” on the Sheboygan-Ozaukee County line.

The property that houses DeMaster Trucking was struck by the winds shortly after 7 p.m. on Thursday, resulting in two silos bolted to concrete bases being upended and destroyed. No tornado warning had been issued, although the area was under both a Tornado Watch and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at the time. Even as the focus of the National Weather Service was elsewhere during a widespread severe weather outbreak across the State, the event occurred under blackening skies and a continuous low, threatening roar that could be heard for over a mile away.

It was only after the storm’s exit after 7:30 that the effects became apparent. It will require investigation by teams from the National Weather Service’s Milwaukee Office in Sullivan to determine whether the damage was due to straight-line winds, or if it was due to the first confirmed tornado in Sheboygan County since a brief touchdown near Highway V in the Town of Wilson in 2018.
