Washington County Sheriff
Members of the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office will join those of the Fond du Lac, Manitowoc, Ozaukee and Washington County Sheriffs in a death investigation related to a missed court date and police pursuit.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office will lead the investigation as part of a multi-jurisdictional team formed to ensure public trust by conducting accurate, objective, transparent, timely, and professional investigations of major incidents.
The case under scrutiny began when a 62-year-old Town of Trenton man missed a court date related to multiple felony charges on Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court. The man failed to appear for his hearing and a search for him commenced in Washington County. A felony arrest warrent was issued by the judge, and the man’s attorney expressed concern for his client’s welfare. Authorities had reason to believe that the man might be armed.
Shortly after midnight this morning, the subject was observed by a Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy driving recklessly in the Town of Kewaskum, and a traffic stop was attempted. After several tries to stop the car over the course of several miles, the subject pulled over near the intersection of Newark Drive and Kettle Moraine Road in the Town of Barton. Multiple prompts to have him exit his vehicle went without success and the car was approached. Deputies discovered the man deceased along with a firearm within the vehicle.
The East Central Wisconsin Sheriff’s Investigative Team, of which the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is a member, has been called in to investigate the incident. No further information was to be released at this time.
