A Friday night chase resulted in multiple vehicles damaged, a block-long fire and accident scene with four injuries, and a pending court appearance for a Green Bay woman.
The chase began when a Fond du Lac County Deputy clocked the 19-year-old going north at more than 50 mph in a 25 mph zone on South Main Street in a residential neighborhood near South 10th Street. She was doing over 80 by the time the Deputy activated the lights & siren, but that only made her go faster approaching the downtown. Out of concern for safety and in hopes the driver would slow down on their own, the Deputy was ordered to break off the pursuit. However, the woman continued at high speed on Main and switched into the oncoming southbound lane where she struck an SUV near Division Street, setting both vehicles on fire, and then striking seven more civilian vehicles before coming to rest near Merrill Avenue.
The woman got out of her burning vehicle and surrendered to Deputies, who by then had recruited Fond du Lac Police and Fire responders to check for injuries, render first aid, and suppress fires on the scene that spanned a city block. In all, three people in stricken cars as well as the 19-year-old offender were injured.
The Green Bay woman was out on two signature bonds from Brown County for Drug, OWI and Bail Jumping. She also had similar charges pending against her already in Fond du Lac and Ozaukee Counties, and will now be facing multiple additional charges once she’s released from St. Agnes Hospital.
