Jake Bauers gave one a ride with two outs and a runner aboard in the ninth, but Reds center fielder TJ Friedl leaped and pulled it back to snap the Brewers' eight-game winning streak. 4-2 Reds. pic.twitter.com/T8cn73sWxA

What a gut punch way for the winning streak to end last night. Off of bat I thought that was gone. Game tying, 2-run bomb from Rake Bauers. But TJ Friedl channeled his inner Carlos Gomez and robbed the home run, to the delight of the tens of people at Great American Ballpark last night. I immediately thought of this:
Man what a different world that was! One of the few highlights for the 2013 Brewers, who were en route to winning 74 games and finishing in 4th place in the division. Miller Park was still Miller Park, BA was actually working Brewer games, Fox Sports Wisconsin still existed, I was still in denial about an obvious receding hairline (I’ll just push it forward from the back!), a different world.
Anyway, 12 years later a little payback for the Reds last night.
Now as much of a bummer as it is to see the winning streak come to an end, THIS was the streak we were waiting for. The Brewers have been treading water at around .500 for most of the season, but at some point you knew they’d need to rip off a chunk of games if they really wanted to get into the race. 8 games in a row and 12 of 15 will do just fine. They still have a lot of ground to make up in the division, but they’re firmly back in the Wild Card race, and it’s only June 4th.
PS: Brandon Woodruff can’t catch a break, can he. He was scheduled to make his return to the Majors a few weeks ago, completing a 20 month long rehab of his shoulder. Then ankle tendinitis popped up during his last rehab start. Okay, hit the reset button. He makes a rehab start in Appleton last week, no problems. Then last night was once again supposed to be his last rehab start before putting a Brewer jersey back on, and he gets smoked with a 108 mph come-backer in the 2nd inning. Right on his pitching arm. Left the game and didn’t return, although it sounds like x-rays were negative. But you’ve got to imagine he’s going to have to make at least one more rehab start now before he gets called up. Brutal!
