You know it’s time to end a chase when a view of the sky replaces the road ahead. That’s what happened in Manitowoc County on Friday evening when Sheriff’s Officers began pursuit of a silver SUV that was driving erratically on northbound I-43 near the Village of Cleveland.
A deputy located the vehicle near the City of Manitowoc and tried to stop it, but the driver sped up to between 90 and 110 mph before exiting at Francis Creek, heading eastbound until crashing into support poles of a Shell gas station sign just east of I-43.
The driver fled on foot, but was located within a short time and taken into custody. Following treatment for minor injuries, the 23-year-old Milwaukee man was booked into the Manitowoc County Jail on charges of Driving Without a Valid License, Fleeing an Officer, and two counts of Bail Jumping, as well as on two active warrants from Milwaukee County.
