DENZEL CLARKE OMG!

I mean. What in the world is this. I’ve never seen ANYTHING like this in all of my years watching or covering baseball. He’s Spiderman. He’s Superman. He’s Elastic Boy. He’s Pablo Sanchez (just kidding, no one is that good).
I try not to be prone to hyperbole, but this is the greatest catch I’ve ever seen in centerfield. This is the real life Tanaka catch from Major League II:
As Brewer fans we’ve been blessed with ELITE centerfield play over the last few decades. Mike Cameron, Carlos Gomez, Lo Cain, etc. They’ve all made incredible leaping catches at the wall to rob home runs and, at times, end games. But as the Oakland Las Vegas Sacramento A’s announcer said on the call, that ball wasn’t a wall scraper. That ball was 5-6 FEET out of the park. You almost feel like that batter should get credit for half of a home run. Incredible.
PS: Sometimes it blows my mind when you think of the ‘evolution’ of a game. Willie Mays is, in my opinion, the greatest baseball player of all time. When you combine his offense and defense at a premium position, no one matches him. And his over-the-shoulder catch in the ’54 World Series is one of the greatest of all time given the context of the year he made it. But this catch is borderline routine now:
If you could go back in time and show that 1954 audience this Denzel Clarke catch from last night they might have a stroke.
