Two persons from the Sheboygan County area were among those honored by the Wisconsin DNR for their efforts battling invasive species both on land, and in the waters of Wisconsin.
Steve Klock and Patrick Siwula were among fifteen individuals and one professional organization honored as winners of the 2025 Invasive Species Action Awards by the Wisconsin Invasive Species Council, a governor-appointed group that advises the DNR and the state legislature on related issues.
Patrick Siwula is a Regional Coordinator who’s overseen early detection and rapid response efforts on multiple high-profile invasive species. As an example, after detecting the prohibited Starry Stonewort plant growing in several inland lakes, Siwula guided lake associations through effective response efforts and innovative ways of managing the problem. The resulting data gathered has now been used in scientific literature.
Steve Klock is known as a local expert here in Sheboygan County. Although now retired from the DNR, Steve has continued his work since 2011 through educating local schools, youth camps, landowners, non-profits and others on invasive species.
The Council awards individuals and groups in both professional and volunteer settings that positively impact the fight against the spread of invasive species, representing all regions of Wisconsin.
