The surviving children of an Oostburg couple killed in a Memorial Day morning crash were given a big boost after a Monday fundraiser.
A social media post on Tuesday gave the details: Total funds raised, $21,254. Culver’s Restaurant in Oostburg had pledged to donate half of the days sales to a fund supporting Allissa and Nathan Horne. Allissa was in the back seat of a vehicle with her parents, Jay and Nicole in the front of their vehicle that was struck by a wrong-way driver on I-43 near Port Washington. Daughter Allissa and her brother Nathan are faced with covering sudden costs related to multiple surgeries and rehabilitation for Allissa, as well as for the funeral costs for the parents.
Sales at Culver’s added $13,812 from the say’s sales while a donation jar yielded $2,442. Another $5,000 was donated by Jill and Ken Horkan who’d previously managed the Sheboygan Culver’s to bring that total to more than $21,000.
An ongoing GoFundMe page had registered $53,827 as of Wednesday morning, raising the total to $75,081 available to cover medical costs for Allissa and the final arrangements for Jay and Nicole.
The Oostburg State Bank is managing the memorial fund for the Horne family.
