
Sheboygan firefighters were called to extinguish a blaze that broke out in a far south side mobile home on Monday morning. The alarm was called shortly after 9 a.m. with the report of a structure fire on Elmwood Drive in the Sommers Trailer Park off South 12th Street, and a full department response of 9 units in all was immediately dispatched, arriving within 4 minutes of the call.
The first crew arriving reported light smoke from the exterior and located the fire in the kitchen area. The blaze was quickly extinguished while crews confirmed that all occupants had safely exited.
Unfortunately, two cats were found deceased, while a third survived and was reunited with the owner.
The SFD remained on the scene for another hour-and-a-half to conduct overhaul and check for hot spots. One resident was displace by the fire, the cause of which remains under investigation, and which caused an estimated $15,000 damage.
