A mid-Sunday morning accident between an ATV and horse-drawn buggy resulted in the death of the buggy driver, and serious injury to a passenger.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, along with EMS and fire personnel, responded to the incident on US Highway 10 east of Maertz Road in the Township of Cato.
Investigators determined that a 42-year-old Brillion woman was driving her SUV eastbound on US Highway 10, trailing behind a horse-drawn carriage, also eastbound and operated by a 27-year-old Manitowoc County man. The SUV struck the carriage from behind, ejecting both the operator and his 13-year-old passenger upon impact. The operator of the carriage was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the passenger was transported by ambulance for treatment of injuries.
The Wisconsin State Patrol has been called in to investigate and reconstruct the crash scene, and until that is complete, no further details will be released.
