With the July 4th Holiday just two weeks from this Friday, the City of Sheboygan is getting a head-start on awareness of City Ordinances that may affect celebration plans.
Sheboygan has not allowed fireworks of any kind for decades, and those restrictions against anything that is specifically ‘manufactured, processed or packaged for exploding, emitting sparks or combustion, which does not have another common use, other than fuels, lubricants, signal flares, matches and lighters, model rocket engines and tobacco and related products’…still apply.
(Sheboygan Municipal Code Secs. 50-670-50-695)
Sparklers or snakes or cap guns or firecrackers or fountains will land you in trouble if caught, and so, matches & lighters only, please, as if it weren’t even the 4th of July.
For those gathering around any of the City’s Lake Michigan beaches, be aware that no boats or watercraft are allowed near or on beaches, and both alcohol consumption and glass are prohibited as well. The exception to alcohol use applies only to that area of Deland Park that is south of the pier (the vendor area), and on the grass area of King Park. Those building bonfires should restrict their use from between 6 and 10 p.m. only, with a diameter not to exceed 36 inches and a height of 18 inches. When done, the City is asking that fires not be buried, but rather either drowned or left to safely burn. Fines will be issued for violations.
