Forecasters are more confident now than earlier today of the heat wave we’re about to experience. The only change in the forecast could be welcome news: southwest winds tomorrow through Monday could be quite breezy with gusts, especially on Saturday late morning through late afternoon, to around 35 mph. While helping to buffer what would otherwise be a sweltering heat without the breeze, the combined effects of that heat and humidity will still comprise a life-threatening situation for those without a means of indoor relief.
Whereas we have a Heat Advisory for a “feels-like” temperature near 100 degrees from noon Saturday until 7 PM Monday, the Counties of Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha have an Extreme Heat Warning for heat values as high as 108 degrees, which significantly increases the rate of heat-related illnesses.
Areas within a few miles of the 53-degree waters of Lake Michigan will get a few degrees break from the rest with values in the mid-90s, but inland areas such as Elkhart Lake could experience a heat index of 101 on Saturday.
Relief will arrive overnight Monday into Tuesday with showers, thunderstorms, and temperatures hovering in the low 70s. Lows in the 60s are expected once again by Tuesday night.
