While Lake Michigan’s waters are a “refreshing” 53 degrees right now, and that sounds pretty inviting in the face of oppressive heat and humidity, cooling off in those waters is being strongly discouraged today. The National Weather Service has issued a warning of High Swim Risk today at the General King Park and Kohler Andrae State Park Beaches in Sheboygan County. Large waves and dangerous currents are expected in those areas, and people should stay out of the water and away from dangerous areas like piers and breakwalls. The DeLand Park Beach was not included in the hazard statement.

Sunday’s swim risk will be “Moderate” at those same beaches on Sunday when large waves and dangerous currents are likely, and so avoiding dangerous piers, breakwalls and river mouths is encouraged. If you do go in the water, it’s recommended to always use a flotation device for safety.
On Monday the risk will be low, but people should still stay wary for the possible development of dangerous currents near piers and breakwalls.
