A high-speed chase in Fond du Lac County on Saturday ended five miles after it began. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said the events began shortly after 11 AM Saturday with a 911 call reporting a reckless driver speeding eastbound through the Village of Rosendale on State Highway 23, running a red light at the intersection with State Highway 26. A Fond du Lac K9 Deputy along with a State Trooper spotted the vehicle speeding toward the Fond du Lac city limits where the driver ignored flashing lights and sirens, and the chase began, now heading north on I-41. Only a half mile down the road, the suspect struck a guard rail, but continued another 2-1/2 miles before attempting a turnaround.
That’s where the K9 Deputy used a PIT maneuver – to no avail – and the suspect headed back south in the northbound lanes of I-41. The Deputy and Trooper tried to box in the vehicle, which nearly escaped as it hit the State Patrol car, but the Deputy finally pinned the suspect’s vehicle against a snow fence and disabled it.
The driver, a 49-year-old man from Ripon, was evaluated at the hospital and subsequently taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail where he faces multiple charges, including Fleeing and Eluding, Reckless Driving, Hit-and-Run and suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated.
