The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has released May unemployment data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, painting a picture of increasing unemployment trends in most of the State’s Cities, Counties and Metropolitan Areas over the past year.
Focusing on Sheboygan, the Metropolitan workforce showed an increase of 700 persons since April, and a gain of 600 since May of 2024. Once seasonally adjusted, those changes were +300 for the month and +900 for the year.
Unemployment in the Sheboygan Metropolitan Area was 3% in May, an increase of 0.2% since April, and up 1/2 of a percent for the year.
May’s 2025 Unemployment Rate for the City of Sheboygan came in at 3.2%, up from 3.0% in April, and a gain of 0.6% since May of 2024. Still, the City of Sheboygan gained two positions in rank since April to 16th place among the 35 Wisconsin cities rated, a position shared with Appleton, Green Bay and Wausau.
Sheboygan County’s May 2025 Unemployment rate came in at 3.0%, up from 2.8% in April and up from 2.5% last May. After ranking #12 among 72 counties in April, Sheboygan County had the #15 spot last month, a position shared with eight others, including Manitowoc County.
