A lightning strike at a gas station in Howards Grove triggered a fire department response Sunday night.
At around 8:30 PM, crews from the Howards Grove and Haven Fire Departments rushed to the Petro Center at the intersection of Highways 32 and 42 after reports of smoke and a possible fire were received. Firefighters found moderate smoke inside the building but no active flames. Inspecting the attic was difficult due to past renovations, but crews confirmed the fire hadn’t spread.
Investigators believe the lightning hit the building’s air handling unit, causing the smoke. Thanks to quick coordination between departments, the scene was brought under control without injuries.
