Shoreline Metro has announced additional Saturday service, and is seeking input on planned rate increases.
The Director of Transit & Parking for the City of Sheboygan, Derek Muench, said that the Saturday Sheboygan Falls to Kohler route was suspended during COVID. On-demand service had been offered since then, but beginning on July 12th, riders on Route 20 will again have regular bus rides available Monday through Saturday. Muench said that it was again time to put the route in place, given the demand for the many seasonal Kohler Hospitality workers that use that commute. He noted that “Transit is so vital to our communities, our industries, our citizens, who rely on an accessible and affordable option to get to and from work, school, appointments, and shopping. It’s not every day we can celebrate adding back service; today is one of those days.”
Proposed fare increases were also announced on Friday, and if approved, would go into effect on January 1st next year. The first increase in almost 20 years would see the cash fare go from $1.75 to $2.00, day passes and the one-way ADA paratransit trips would go from $3 up to $4, and the monthly unlimited ride pass would get bumped $2, up to $50.00.
Muench said that even with the increases, fares won’t cover the full cost but will help offset expenses and reliance on grants and taxes.
