A look at how Sheboygan County agencies would like to apply the Capital Improvement Budget over the next five years will take place when the Planning, Resources, Agriculture and Extension Committee meets at 3:30 PM on Tuesday. Several projects are proposed to be included in the development of the upcoming Capital Improvements Budget that, altogether, are seeking $925,000.
Among the proposed items are a $200,000 request to demolish what’s currently known as the “Old Lodge” at the Sheboygan Marsh Park, and replace it with a new, 30×40-foot maintenance/storage structure. A separate proposal for the Sheboygan Marsh is for a boardwalk that would make winter access possible, and improve the experience of everyone year-round. The design has already been done via a grant received in 2021, and the current request would implement that plan.
$150,000 is being requested for the maintenance of the Interurban Trail. The proposal notes that whereas Ozaukee County currently maintains 30 miles of paved off-road trails for the length of that county, and connects to a number of routes in the Milwaukee Metro Area; North of the County Line, however, the trail runs northward off-road for 5-1/2 miles to the south side of Oostburg, where another 9-miles are designated on existing County Roads to Kohler-Andrae State Park. As the trail system is very popular, the existing 5.5 mile off-road section is in need of maintenance after nearly 20 years. The project would repave small areas where growth has emerged through the asphalt, along with repair of tar cracks and a chip seal/sealcoat and roll for the length of the trail extending the life of the pavement by 5-10 years. Two culverts would also be replaced, and the total project request is $300,000.
A similar request for maintenance of the Old Plank Road Trail along its 9-mile length from Sheboygan to Plymouth after 20-years, as well as culvert replacement and repair, is being requested for funding of $225,000.
Finally, maintenance requests for the Shoreland 400 trail that runs nearly 2 miles through the heart of the City of Sheboygan, as well as for the mile-long Southside Utility Corridor Trail, are being submitted for maintenance. The combined total of those requests is $50,000.
