Reassessment notices are in the mail for certain Sheboygan property owners. City Hall announced that it began sending notices on Monday concerning assessments for 2025. Not everyone will receive a notice, as the process of redetermining the value of real property in the City is being done over the course of five years; this one is year-4, affecting Tax Districts 0 and 7, which are north of Superior Avenue from the lake to North 15th Street. 3,200 properties will be reassessed during this year’s schedule, with the final segment to be done next year.
The City says the process isn’t intended to increase taxes, but to determine how to distribute the tax burden fairly and equitably among taxable properties in Sheboygan. State law mandates that all municipalities in Wisconsin be valued at 100% of market value, and that assessments be kept within 10% of that value.
Assessment staff with a Photo ID will be entering the properties to perform their duties, and implied consent will be given unless a written refusal is provided to the assessor.
