A program operated by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has awarded a portion of over $2 million in Training Grants to Masters Gallery Foods of Sheboygan County. The latest round of Fast Forward Worker Training Grants, nearly $2.3 million in all, was distributed to 18 employers across the state to train more than 1,000 workers to meet workforce needs in the construction, customer service, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation sectors.
Among the list of recipients in the most recent award was Masters Gallery Foods which, in partnership with Quest Industrial LLC and Somic Packaging Inc., was awarded $101,142. The grant will be used to train 25 unemployed and 70 current employees on new equipment and technology that produces packaged cheese slices. According to the State DWD, current workers could receive a wage increase of 89 cents or more per hour.
The State of Wisconsin launched the Wisconsin Fast Forward program in 2013 to help businesses train and retain highly skilled workers and address the skills gap. Since then, these grants have provided more than $51 million to support more than 461 workforce training projects, and benefited more than 30,000 workers.
