Animal lovers with plenty of room are being given the opportunity to adopt a wild horse or burro by the Bureau of Land Management. The adoption takes place through an online corral auction that begins this coming Monday and runs through July 21st. Following the online auction of around 30 animals, the winning bidders will be able to pick up their animal at the Ozaukee County Fairgrounds in Cedarburg on September 12th.
The Online Corral is the BLM’s internet-based platform where prospective adopters and purchasers can browse photos, videos and details about available wild horses and burros, submit applications, and place bids online. The wild animals were gathered from overpopulated herds on public lands in the western US to help maintain healthy animals and healthy rangelands. Most of the horses and burros are untrained and unhandled.
To qualify, adopters must be at least 18 years of age and have at least 400 square feet of corral space per animal, appropriate shelter, and fencing height based on the animal type.
