The victim of drowning in the Sheboygan Jaycee Quarry Park on Tuesday was recovered by search crews nearly 24 hours after his disappearance.
In a noon-hour news conference by Sheboygan Fire Department Chief Eric Montellano, it was revealed that a search, which resumed at 7 AM Wednesday after an overnight suspension, had succeeded in locating the victim at around noon on Wednesday.
The Chief noted that following the recovery of the 13-year-old boy, the family positively identified the victim, and the Sheboygan Police Department is now investigating the circumstances.
When asked about conditions presented to search crews from Sheboygan County, Milwaukee County, the Wisconsin DNR and the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, Montellano responded that the divers were following “pings” recorded on sonar, and encountering debris that entangled them during their search. He also alluded to the nature of the quarry walls and the rock shelves that exist beneath the surface as factors in making recovery an extended process.
No other details were immediately available.
