Weather conditions that can threaten people’s lives are expected across much of Wisconsin this Wednesday and Thursday, and the Lake Michigan shoreline will not be spared.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for portions of east central, south central and southeast Wisconsin from Wednesday morning through Thursday evening. This includes areas from Sheboygan County westward through Marquette County and the Wisconsin Dells, and southward into most of Illinois and eastern Iowa, where maximum heat index values could reach 106 degrees. Under such conditions, heat related illnesses increase significantly, and people are being advised to stay in an air-conditioned room, out of the sun, and to check up on relatives and neighbors.
Southwest winds ushering in the hot, humid air will likely prevent Lake Michigan from having its usual buffering benefit, especially on Wednesday. By Thursday, cloud cover and afternoon & evening thunderstorms may help moderate the extremes while still experiencing unhealthy hot, humid conditions.

For the Sheboygan area, the heat index is expected to max out at 103 on Wednesday, and reach 100 on Thursday. Actual highs are predicted to be in the low 90s both days, with nighttime lows remaining in the mid 70s.
Temperatures should moderate on Friday with only the mid 80s expected, a high temperature range that will likely be maintained into next week.
