Though hopes were that early Wednesday morning activity may shade the area with lingering cloud cover, it now appears likely that there will not be enough to avoid extreme heat settling upon the area both Wednesday and Thursday. As a result, a Heat Advisory will be in effect for all of southern Wisconsin from 11 AM Wednesday until 8 PM Wednesday. Some locations may see an elevation to an Extreme Heat Warning. It’s still possible that another Heat Advisory will be issued for Thursday, but only for those parts southeast of a line from Port Washington to Janesville where heat indices may exceed 100 degrees.

In the Sheboygan area, Wednesday’s heat index is expected to reach just shy of the 100-degree mark, the coolest among most of southern Wisconsin which, elsewhere, will reach between 100 and 106 degrees. Thursday’s values should be somewhat lower, but still in a range that requires attention for those who may be susceptible to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

NWS Graphic
Relief, however brief, should arrive with highs around 80 degrees on Friday, but by Sunday, highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows around 70 will again assert the heat of summer across the area.
