A traffic accident at around 12:30 PM on Tuesday has claimed the life of an 81-year-old Sun Prairie area woman. Troopers from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office along with Troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to the accident scene of a head-on collision on US Highway 151 near Thill Road in the Town of Oakfield at 12:27PM. Two Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies were, by chance, in the area, which is about 6 miles southwest of the City of Fond du Lac, on a transport assignment when they witnessed the collision and immediately rendered aid to those involved.
An 81-year-old Sun Prairie area woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, while a 59-year-old Waupun man sustained serious injuries. He was transported to St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac for treatment.
The Fond du Lac County Crash Reconstruction Team determined that the woman, who was southbound on Highway 151, may have experienced a medical emergency and crossed the grass median into the northbound lanes where she struck the vehicle being driven by the Waupun man. In a maneuver intended to avoid a collision, he sideswiped a secondary northbound vehicle, but the occupants were not injured.
No other details were released, as the accident remains under investigation.
