The Sheboygan City Plan Commission will consider issuing a permit to house a refugee family in downtown Sheboygan today. The request for a Conditional Use Permit comes from St. Luke United Methodist Church, which is proposing to use its existing parsonage at 915 North 7th Street to house the family.
According to the permit application, the house, most recently used by the Mental Health Association, would retain its commercial zoning status, needs no alterations, and would “meet the goals of the Sheboygan Comprehensive Plan by utilizing existing development and adding a family that will support local businesses and increase cultural diversity.”
The application has been recommended for approval, but a public hearing will be held first during the 4 p.m. meeting in the Council Chambers prior to any actions taken either for, or against, the proposal by the Plan Commission.
